Pi Beta Phi
We are proud to say that we have been a part of Nerdy and the Greek from the start. We loved how one day we were at the hair salon giving our nerd his first faux hawk (no Haven, not a Mohawk!) and the next we were on CNN. We never know what to expect with Nerdy and the Greek so it only makes sense that we signed on again to help out with an event that is so positive and so memorable for us all.
At Pi Beta Phi we would rather be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring which is why we are big fans and avid participants of Nerdy and The Greek! NATG incorporates everything we stand for including making new friends, community involvement and raising money for multiple good causes.
You mean this person will let us make them over, we get to break down stereotypes, you're going to donate money to our favorite charity AND we can help raise money for an endowment?! We would be boring if we passed on participating in such a positive event.
The philanthropy we are supporting is Read Across America. Since 2005, Pi Beta Phi has partnered with Read Across America, a reading awareness program initiated by the National Education Association (NEA). Read Across America events are held on or around March 2 of each year to celebrate the birthday of beloved children’s author Dr. Seuss. We promote reading by going in to local schools and working with the teachers to plan out fun events we can do with the students.
We usually have one person dress up as the Cat in the Hat and visit each classroom. With the students we encourage them to write stories, read Dr. Suess books as well as word games. It's a really fun event we like to do so we can get to know the students in our community and hopefully spark an interest in reading.
